As well known, the market requirement to produce eggs with the stipulated level of pigmentation in its yolk obliges the use of specific ingredients in hen feed rich in xanthophyls. These products are derived from carotenoids and with non-nutritional properties, although they have a colouring capacity. Among these products are corn, alfalfa flour etc...

However, when the amount of pigmenting raw material in the chicken feed is below the market requirement, some xanthophyl concentrates are usually added, beginning with a yellow basis and later on with a red basis. This technique enables the exact level of yellowy-orange pigmentation to be achieved for the egg.

The main objective of the experiment, the summarized results of which are to follow, was to check the efficiency of the pigmentation in egg-yolk of the product "Borchick" in comparison to other known commercial pigmentation agents.
